Event report: Wrest Park, St Georges Day 2012

A truely suprising event! The weather reports suggested rain, rain, snow and more rain! Driving down to the park in driving rain on friday night suggested it would be one of those events. I didnt even bother to set up my tent. Less stuff to get soaked through.

Imagine my suprise when I wake up to glorious sunshine! Warm and sunny all weekend! Phew…

Lovely weather was the least of my worries however, as shortly I would be facing ‘fasands of billmen with only one cannon and a rusty sword, a charging horse or two, a suspiciously papiermachery dragon (at least until St George’s horse trod on it and all the bits fell off), a fistfight over who won a different and worst of all, cooking for other people!

Luckily we managed to survive the pottage of diverse meats, the pie of uncertain quantity and  the specialy German sausage and lived happily ever after. At least until the heavens opened 10 minutes before pack down.

Typical…

Quote of the weekend: “They say there’s no smoke without fire. They lie!”

Event Report: Warwick Castle 2012

Well that was a very boring event with no silly behavior at any point whatsoever.

No letters who written. No low level guerilla wars were sparked. Deffinately noone was ambushed, kidnappped and tied to a tree.

A new old monestary

The French and Americans are building a castle, now the Germans are building a medieval monestary, by hand.

Brad Pitt – reenactor?

According to The Sun (and therefore, it must be true), apparently Brad Pitt is a tinny…

“Maddox was really interested in wars but hated all other aspects of the subject so Brad hatched a plan for them to dress up and go to re-enactment days.

“He bought suits of armour and even special weapons. Now all the kids are really interested in history.”

Interesting example of how reenactment can get even the most unlikey to take a greater interest in history?

That panned out well…

Well, I went to the market with my shopping list!

I got:

Wool, black worsted for a doublet
